The one about me…
Welcome to my first blog post! This blog will regularly be about my journey to becoming a Network Engineer as well as my thoughts on current events in the techno-sphere. But, I want to start by sharing a bit about myself and get acquainted with you, the reader.
So, who am I?
Well, you obviously know my name is Matt Millsaps. It’s in the header of the site, and if that isn’t enough, it’s also the URL. If you stumbled upon my website looking for someone else, sorry about it! I am a 26-year-old, 3rd year, Network Operations and Security student studying at Western Governors University.
I have always had an interest in the world of technology. As a millennial, growing up and seeing the access and advancements in tech at a more and more rapid pace was exciting. The ability to sit in front of a computer and chat with someone, in another city, state or even country was almost otherworldly! This 'thing' called the internet was amazing but I had no idea how it worked or even that I could one day have a hand in its maintenance and future advancements.
While almost all of my working experience has been in dealing with technology in one form or another, my journey really began after I participated in a web development boot camp through Udemy. Getting to engage the creative side of my brain and build responsive web pages was euphoric. I could write some markup, assign some CSS, and push it to the world wide web for all to see. But, that sparked my interest further, opening the door to networking. I was and still am intrigued by how the world, built of computers, share information with each other and humans.
On my contact page, I have a quote by Matt Mullenweg that embodies what I hope to accomplish in my studies, my career, and my life. The creator of WordPress said, “Technology is best when it brings people together" and I couldn't agree more. The internet, in my opinion, is the world's greatest tool and invention. But, unfortunately, as of January 2021, only 59.5% of the world has internet access. I hope to see to and contribute towards advancing the access of the internet universally to everyone, filling the gap and making the internet truly accessible to everyone.
So, that's a little bit about me and what I hope to work towards in my future. I hope you will continue to check back in and I would absolutely love to hear from you. Please reach out to me through my contact page to chat!
